When MTC may cancel a market

MTC reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion and acting in good faith, to pause trading, close a market to new orders, or cancel a contract or market when necessary to protect market integrity or ensure fair resolution, subject to applicable law and the market’s published rules.

Reasons may include an outcome becoming ambiguous after trading begins; unavailable, conflicting or unverifiable outcome evidence; or a real-world event being cancelled, postponed, abandoned or materially changed in a way that falls outside the contract’s published scope. Material changes may include changes to participants, event format, timing or measurement methods that significantly affect the possible outcomes.

MTC will first apply the contract’s published resolution rules and any stated fallback provisions. A cancelled or changed real-world event does not automatically make the market NO or cancel the market. If the published rules still provide a clear result, those rules apply. A price change or a change in the likelihood of an outcome alone is not a reason to cancel.

Trading may be paused while MTC reviews the situation. Cancelling a market requires a recorded reason, supporting evidence and MTC approval by two separate operators. MTC will publish notice of the decision, its reasons and the applicable payout treatment as soon as practicable. Participants may contact support to request a review.

Cancellation uses the refund or payout treatment attached to that market’s published terms, as explained under Refunds and cancellations. This authority does not create a full purchase-price refund, change existing payout amounts or remove an escrow’s settlement restrictions.

Refunds and cancellations

If you cancel an unfilled buy order, its unused reserved USDC is returned from the market escrow to your wallet. For a partly filled order, only the unfilled portion is returned. Matches already committed to settlement must finish first.

Cancelling a sell order releases its unsold contracts. It does not refund the purchase price of contracts you already own.

Cancelling an entire market is different from cancelling an order. Existing markets pay 0.50 USDC for each YES or NO contract you hold when the market is cancelled. This is not a refund of your purchase price. Completed sales and trading fees are not reversed.

To receive a cancelled-market payout, claim it from the market or wallet page. The claim credits your market funds; withdraw those funds to move them to your wallet.

Markets with early-cancellation terms can be cancelled before their observation period ends after MTC approval. Older escrows may require waiting until observation ends. Closing trading returns unused order funds but does not itself settle positions.

Trading risks

You can lose the amount committed to a position. Prices reflect trading activity and do not guarantee an outcome.

Network interruptions, unavailable outcome data and disputes can delay transfers or settlement. Review transaction status before submitting another request.

Creating a contract

Submitting a proposal starts MTC review; MTC approval is required before a market can be published. Disclose interests and relationships that could affect the event or your ability to propose it fairly.

Creator compensation is subject to a separately approved and published fee arrangement. Submitting a proposal does not establish a right to payment.
